The Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary was the seat of the kings of Munster for centuries before the site was granted to the church in 1101. Most of the surviving buildings date from the 12th and 13th centuries, including Cormac's Chapel (1127–1134), one of Ireland's most important Romanesque churches, along with a Gothic cathedral and a round tower. Tradition holds that St. Patrick baptised King Aenghus here in the 5th century.
