The National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology on Kildare Street in Dublin opened in 1890 and holds the world's most important collection of Irish antiquities, including prehistoric gold ornaments, bog bodies and Viking-era finds. The museum complex has its roots in the Royal Dublin Society and was designed in the Victorian Palladian style by architects Thomas Newenham Deane and his son Thomas Manly Deane. Entry to Ireland's national museums has traditionally been free of charge.
