Connemara National Park in the west of County Galway was established in 1980 and covers roughly 2,000 hectares of bog, grassland and mountain terrain, including part of the Twelve Bens range. Diamond Hill, with its network of waymarked trails, is the most-climbed peak in the park and offers wide views over the Connemara coastline. The surrounding region is also one of Ireland's largest Irish-speaking Gaeltacht areas.
